A Halloween that feels easy (and still fun)

Halloween week is a lot. Costumes, class parties, candy negotiations and a sugar crash or two. Here are a few ideas to keep it fun without the stress.

1. Pick the costume early, then let it go

Let kids choose, set a budget and embrace the homemade touches. The best photos are rarely the perfect ones.

2. Eat a real dinner first

A warm, filling meal before trick-or-treating goes a long way. Think chili, pasta or a sheet-pan dinner you can make ahead.

3. Team up with other families

Trick-or-treat with friends from the club. Kids walk together, moms chat, and everyone gets home a little earlier.

4. Have a candy plan

Pick a few favorites to keep, then trade, share or donate the rest. Some families have a "switch witch" who swaps candy for a small toy overnight.

5. Stay safe and seen

Glow sticks, flashlights and reflective tape make kids easy to spot after dark. Agree on a meeting spot for older kids.
